Nicolas Jaar is by far one of my favourite producers in recent times. He never fails to impress me with his incredible talent, and that's exactly what he's done here with his latest offering "The Ego", a collaboration with Theatre Roosevelt. What's more, he's put it out as a free download. Enjoy.
Over the weekend I was sent this short film titled "From The Earlier" by the New York City based Yomoco (Youth Movement Collective) dance company, featuring original music produced and scored by Cody Alan. It's a really interesting watch, coupled with some great IDM tracks. The standout tune for me was "Fishing the Styx", which can be heard after the jump - but make sure you check out the video too!
In my opinion, Scott Hansen has got to be one of the most talented guys around today. Not only does he have an amazing eye for brilliant design (that he is proving again and again over at his blog), he consistently produces some of the best artwork I've seen to date - and his music is no exception.
Under the pseudonym Tycho, he produces some of the most nostalgic, thought-provoking, ambient-electronic music out there - and his upcoming album 'Dive' is one of my most anticipated of the year (if you haven't heard his debut album, 'Past is Prologue', then please, listen to it right now).
On top of everything else, he does all his own visuals when playing live shows - and from what I have seen in videos, it looks like an experience to be had.
This guy never fails to impress. You can download the track "Hours" from his blog or listen to it below. For those of you that wish to hear more, check out the Soundcloud playlist on his page here. 'Dive' is out November 15th on Ghostly.
I've got 2 awesome tracks from Four Tet for you to listen to. The sound of these two tracks couldn't be further apart, but are both something very special. Four Tet constantly surprises me with the different sounds he manages to achieve across his discography.
The first track, titled 'Locked', is from the upcoming Fabriclive 59 album and is also coming out as a single in September on his Text label. The intricate drum patterns will come as no surprise from this IDM mastermind, as the track gradually builds up into something pretty spectacular. Don't be put off by the long intro, this is truly a track of epic proportions. Throw on some headphones (or turn your speakers up), whack on 'Locked' in the background, and if you don't find yourself tapping your foot to the beat half way though, then I don't know what will!
The second track is a remix of Radiohead's 'Separator'. Personally, I've never quite understood all the hype when it comes to Radiohead (or the Beatles and Queen for that matter). But when it comes to Radiohead remixes, I'm all ears - and this remix is right up my street. Don't worry though, you still get the depressing, wrist-slitting vocals from Thom York, but it's coupled with a savagely mellow, minimal-electronic beat, which comes together to form an utterly beautiful remix that'd be a welcome addition to my Four Tet collection. 3.49 is where it really grabbed my attention, shifting the track into a fantastic 3-minutes of IDM bliss. Perhaps I enjoy it more when the vocals are eliminated from the track, but don't get me wrong, the first half is still great.
Warp HQ have posted the video for K Is For Kelson, a beautiful track from Bibio's latest effort, Mind Bokeh. The track is an awesome blend of Latin American rhythms and African melodies, slotting together effortlessly over Bibio's trademark acousticy, sample heavy sound. Imagine Qantic, Tinariwen and the Buena Vista Social Club teaming up to write a theme tune for a children's entertainment show in the 70's... In The Fishtank session perhaps?
