First Aid Kit new video - Emmylou

So here’s the new video for First Aid Kit’s second single from The Lion’s Roar, Emmylou. A bittersweet love song to country music and the summer, Emmylou was filmed in the desert at Joshua Tree National Park on Gram Parsons’ birthday (5^th November, since you ask). ‘I’ll be your Emmylou and I’ll be your June, and you’ll be my Gram and my Johnny too’ the Swedish sisters sing, and their love of the American country greats can definitely be heard on this track. With upcoming album The Lion’s Roar recorded solely in Omaha, hopefully we can look forward to more sweet Americana-influenced sounds from First Aid Kit. Released through Wichita on Valentine’s Day, Emmylou will make you forget Christmas once and for all, and long instead for lazy summer nights. And with First Aid Kit recently announcing their appearance at this year’s End of the Road festival, those summer nights really can’t come soon enough.

Out This Week: First Aid Kit - The Lions Roar

I have been a fan of First Aid Kit for some time now. After seeing them a handful of times at various festivals I have come to the conclusion that I enjoy following them around like an anorak more than I enjoy the actual sonic qualities of their music. Hitherto I have found their music interesting - and yes, I hate to say it, fun - but I was always of the opinion that their songwriting lacked the depth needed to break them through into the indie mainstream. With this weeks release of The Lions Roar this opinion can be abandoned. Drawing a strong influence from Fleet Foxes and Midlake, they seem to have matured into an act that has started to take itself a tad more seriously. For First Aid Kit, I can only believe that this is a good thing.
