Yesterday we heard Yesayer's remix of "Eyes Wide Open" and today Tanlines have released a remix of the same tune. I really like this version, check it out.

The rooklyn-based "Middle Eastern-psych-snap-gospel" trio Yeasayer have just released a remix of Gotye's new single "Eyes Wide Open". I wasn't too sure after the first listen but it has grown on me considerably. Check it out.

You didn't spot his name in the lists for 2012 because he's actually been around since last year. That said, it would seem that Gotye is one of those guys who's a timebomb waiting to detonate into the charts. At last his music has been dug up and people are starting to realise that this guy is actually pretty alright.
It will be interesting to see what 2012 holds for Gotye. In the meantime, have a look at the video for 'Easy Way Out' which features on his album Making Mirrors.

I'm sat here listing the amount of songs I can recall whose subject matter is about the breakdown of a relationship, with both person's thoughts and feelings represented by a male and female vocalist. Postal Service's Nothing Better, Star's glorious Your Ex-lover Is Dead and, alas, Human League's cringeworthy thirtysomething's anthem Don't You Want Me Baby. But this track from multi-instrumentalist Wouter De Backer, a.k.a Gotye? It's subtle, but yet manages to pack a punch harder than any of the previously mentioned. The mellow Latin style guitar is akin to something that could be heard on a Kings of Convenience record, and the precise, powerful vocals are a bit of an 80's throwback - but the combination works so well together.
"Have your friends collect your records and then change your number"
I think I'll have that lyric in my head for days. Making Mirrors is out on the 19th of August.
